Interview tips

Before you go for an interview find out what you can about what the employer does, for example by looking at their website.

When you go for an interview, the employer will ask you why you want the job, and will ask other questions about your qualifications and experience for the job.

Remember that even though you may feel sure you can do the job, the employer may be seeing five or more people, so you must give examples of your previous work to convince the employer that you have the right skills and experience. If you say ‘I can do that easily’, the employer will not be convinced. You must say when you did something similar before, and how you did it.

It is good before the interview to think what questions you might be asked, and how you will answer them.

It is also good to think about three or four things you want the employer to know about you, and use those to answer questions if they are relevant.

If you do not understand a question properly you can ask the employer to say it again.

Usually at the end of the interview the employer will ask you if you have any questions. This is your chance to find out things that were not on the website, and to ask when they would want someone to start work.

Usually for an interview you need to dress in smart clothes.
